Silent Stalking
This mountain lynx sculpture in marbled soapstone which was collected from the Coquihalla River watershed has dimensions of 20 x 9 x 9 inches and its weight is 70 lbs. I love walking the edge of the Coquihalla river and hunting for raw stone to sculpt with. One day while out looking for jade, I happened upon a large deposit of soapstone. While collecting several pieces for future carving, I happened to notice that someone had hung a dried out and sunlight bleached skull of a small bobcat or lynx on an old fence post. I knew immediately what I needed to create with the stone that I had just collected. The stone is mottled, blue, green beige and brown and the creation of negative space between the legs and under the belly enhance the stealth look and overall silent stalking beauty of this creation. Soapstone bear cub dimensions 7 x 7 x 4.75 inches, weight 6 lbs
This small soapstone carving has lots of negative space including air holes between the claws as the bear cub lies on its back and plays with its feet in the air. The carving can be placed so as to be viewed in a sitting position providing the back is against a wall or in a corner.... but who would play under those circumstances! Suggested Retail Price $700.00
